Preston Main Street footpath 'butchered'
Reported in the Footway or Footpath category anonymously at 19:43, Thu 18 April 2019
Sent to Rutland County Council 2 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 1607401.
Preston is a conservation village with some 33 listed buildings. The owners of which put a lot of time, effort and money to keeping these buildings and gardens in order, however when it comes to the roads, pathways and verges it appears to be a different story. Just over a week ago the power company and ground works contractors dug up the pathways of Main Street in order to reinstate an underground power line to ONE property in the village. I would be interested to learn what the council/highways dept are going to do in order to manage/rectify the unsightly mess left on the pathways. To use a medical analogy, in the age of keyhole surgery surely there is a way to be less invasive when it comes to laying cables, especially when there are so many rules applying to listed building owners about what can/cannot be done within the curtilage of their property. Rules regarding roads and paths (which often add to the appearance of a village) are apparently disregarded . It appears that a medieval approach is taken to digging trenches in the 21st century, which sadly leaves a huge unnecessary 'scar' on the landscape.
