Overgrown grass verge and uncut tree branches combined with road signage blocking view at busy junction

Poor visibility to oncoming traffic on the A47 at the crossroad in Glaston village is causing imminent danger to road users, as you have to pull out beyond the junction stop onto the busy A47 to get a clearer view before committing to the road turn. As your leave Seaton Road, and turn on to the A47, your view to the left along the main road in Glaston looking towards Uppingham for about 100 metres is obscured by overgrown vegetation and poorly positioned road signage which compounds the visibility issues. I recently raised this issue with our local councillor (Mr Andrew Brown), who took the time to do a site visit and he agrees the issue needs addressing ASAP. All the roadside grass verges in the village have been recently cut, with the exception of the aforementioned section of road – Why? Maybe because it difficult to access that verge because of the overgrown trees and bushes on the verge! Please note some of the overgrown trees with branches overlooking the verge are rooted on Highways land (your responsibility to trim) and some others, over the boundary wall and are located in the adjacent field which is church land (Glaston parochial church council). To resolve this matter, I hope you can do the following: trim the trees which you have responsibility for, get the land owner of the field to trim their trees back, then maybe you can trim the highway grass verge back (the grass is about 3 feet tall in some places) and finally move the road signage to another position that does not interfere with visibility splay at the road junction.

The grass to the left of this junction has now been partially trimmed but there is still no visibility . You have to put the front of your car over the junction to ascertain oncoming traffic, making it extremely dangerous both for yourself and oncoming vehicles. This matter needs addressing properly before there is a terrible accident.

Any progress on the investigation to cut the grass/tree branches affecting the road splay visibility at the Glaston crossroad? I assume you are aware of the road accident that occurred on that junction last saturday morning? A cyclist was knocked off his bike by a car turning at the crossroad. The cyclist was injured and taken to hospital in a ambulance. It been nearly 3 weeks since I first reported this issue and no action has taken place yet. However, I did note today, that some speed measuring cables have been placed across the road at junction, Is this anything to do with your investigation?

Today, there has been yet another accident on the A47 at Glaston, that is the second one in two weeks, need I say more? Please note, you road speed survey results for today will be not valid, as the road had been closed for most of the day. Time for traffic calming measures and improved visibility at the crossroad and on the approach roads to the village - Please trim the grass verges and the overhanging trees on the side of the highway. It has been a month since I first reported this problem and in the meantime since we have been awaiting the outcome of your investigations, there has been two serious accidents, both requiring the services of the air ambulance to take the injured to hospital.

The grass cutting element of this issue is now resolved, with the 'urban' grass being cut every 3 weeks during the growing season. The case remains open as we are trying to get the privately-owned trees cut back and are assessing the visibility impact of the signage.

Thanks for cutting the grass and scheduling a regular grass cutting maintenance service to keep it trimmed. However, the grass cutting has made it even more evident, that the main problem is that of the previously mentioned issue of the road signage obscuring the visibility splay at the junction. i.e. when you approach it from Seaton Road and look left (towards Uppingham) to check if the road is clear to before turning onto the busy A47.
Mr Rob Baxter at his last site inspection said if the grass cutting alone was not enough to resolve the situation, then he would consider moving the road signage further back to remedy the situation. I believe this now needs to happen, so I would be much obligate if you would move the signage back a bit to improve road safety at this junction.
