Overgrown vegetation & fallen tree

Reported via desktop in the Overgrown category anonymously at 12:07, Monday 1 August 2022

Sent to Rutland County Council less than a minute later

It is very difficult to actually access the field where the footpath starts from the verge next to the A1 due to the overgrown vegetation on the verge. However, the path is also significantly overgrown, until I reached a fallen tree completely blocking the path about 150 metres along the RoW. From using this path on regular occasions previously, I am aware that this obstruction has been in place for several months. Bizarrely, once it is possible to climb over / crawl under the tree, it appears that the path has been kept in reasonable condition, with the grass cut down as far as the tree. In effect, whoever had been maintaining the right of way has assumed that it ends at the fallen tree.

  • Can you please clarify whether there the overgrown vegetation on the verge of the A1 is the responsibility of the landowner of the field, or National Highways. If the latter, there are two issues to resolve - the fallen tree (responsibility of landowner) and the A1 verge (responsibility of National Highways).
