In progress
I reported on this issue in February this year and RCC have only made a half-hearted attempt to clean up these laybys. The amount of litter and waste is totally unacceptable and the lack of decent waste bins is obvious as some are missing.

Way back in February this year I reported on this issue. No progress has been made despite a response from RCC that one of the truck areas had received a half hearted attempt at cleansing. Why are all the laybys not checked weekly, and why are proper suitable bins not supplied? The amount of litter is along the whole length of the laybys and it blows further up onto the verges and central reservation. It looks an absolute disgrace as you drive through what we would all like to think is our ‘beautiful’ County! I know we need to educate people to either dispose of their waste responsibly or take it home, but when there is no waste bin there, it just means that people are leaving their detritus behind. The damage this does to our wildlife is awful. So, RCC, please get these areas tidied up!

Despite my original reporting of the lay-by littering issues, nothing has been to done to clean up these areas. They are an absolute disgrace. Bins missing, bins that are in situ are overflowing, bins with low capacity, i.e domestic size. So come on Rutland County Council, get this problem resolved! The A1 has received a fairly major litter clean and with a huge resurfacing project being carried out, the road is actually looking respectable. But, the RCC lay-bys are an embarrassment.

I travelled to Stamford yesterday, via the A1, accessing at Stretton slip road. Despite my earlier complaints the laybys are still covered in litter and the bins, if any in situ, are absolutely overflowing. Why is it impossible to get these areas cleaned up? They are an absolute disgrace to see as you drive through the county. The litter on the verges is also bad, but I understand that they are the responsibility of ‘National Highways’. Please RCC can you give the laybys a revamp with brand new large capacity bins that are emptied regularly. I will be contacting Alicia Kearns MP to express my dismay that you have not dealt with my complaints effectively.
