Major Damage to Road Surface

Reported via mobile in the Cracked or Damaged Road Surface category anonymously at 14:38, Thu 31 August 2023

Sent to Rutland County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4945433.

This broken and jagged tarmac and potholed road surface is on Empingham Rd, the main A606. At the T junction after leaving the northbound carriageway and turning right towards Stamford. This section of road has NOT been resurfaced in years and has been in this state for months. There are now 3 reports on Fix My Street for this issue and one has been submitted and ignored since March 23. Whoever's carriageway, Rutland/Leicester/Lincs/South Kesteven needs to investigate and repair URGENTLY as grooves and sharp edges to tarmac are increasing daily.

  • I have personally reported this numerous times. Now been told that it has been inspected and Rutland County Council have decided no remedial action is required at this time and that the matter is closed. Disgusting service.

  • I spoke with a lady at Rutland County Council Highways on 13 Oct, who said she was aware of the issue and that it was on schedule to be fixed this month - Nov 23. She said she would update Fix My Street with the info, neither has happened so far. Rutland County Council respond to all of these members of the public who are wanting to know what you are doing to rectify this stretch of awful road.

  • Dear Rutland Council. Please can you provide the process for me to claim for the repair costs to my car for the damage this pothole caused to my VW Passat estate near side (left) front axle top strut mount (see attached photo) on Tuesday 5th December at approximately 11.50am at these coordinates (52.6553278, -0.5144112). I was overtaking a cyclist on my approach to Stamford at approximately 35-40 mph with the sun relatively low in the sky and hit these potholes that I did not see. As I passed over them there was a loud bang and not long after this a rattling sound.

I see that this has been reported several times and not dealt with and considered usable and safe. If you consider this to be the same I will unfortunately have to take the council to the small claims court to argue the case and recover my repair costs.

    Yours sincerely, Mr D Clarke.
