Residents' parked cars on Brooke Road

Reported in the Roads/highways category by Tim Price at 22:44, Wed 13 April 2016

Sent to Rutland County Council 1 minute later

The driver of a car got into a nasty altercation with a driving instructor and his pupil. The driving instructor and pupil were travelling towards town and had to drive towards oncoming traffic, because of the residents' parked cars. A car being driven in the opposite direction refused to give way to the driving instructor and pupil. Now, I know that 'technically' the other car, that was travelling towards Welland Way, did have a legal right of way. But, common sense should have prevailed and the driving instructor and pupil been allowed to continue past the parked cars. The driver of the other car and the passenger were getting very aggressive and refusing to give in.

This area is a nightmare - especially when the barriers at the level crossing are down. Traffic backs up as far as the traffic lights with Mill Street on a regular basis. These parked cars beside the houses on Brooke Road make the situation more difficult to negotiate.

If you are driving along Brooke towards the town, it is a lucky gamble whether or not you will meet another car coming in the opposite direction. Occasionally, a sensible driver will allow right of way - but some more aggressive drivers will barge through regardless and expect the car travelling towards town to either back up or pull in to let them past (even if there is nowhere to pull in).

I understand that the allotments at Brooke Road are due for closure in the near future. Any chance of creating a Resident Car Park for this area of Brooke Road. A similar car park was created at Barleythorpe Road (which was long overdue) - and the situation at this point has since considerably improved (with the introduction of double-yellow lines.

Thank you for considering this fix.
