Tree at a dangerous angle likely to fall, with danger to road users and damage to retaining wall

Reported via desktop in the Overhanging tree, hedge or shrub category anonymously at 14:49, Wednesday 27 May 2026

Sent to Rutland County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 9514943.

I wrote to you in August 2024 as I was concerned about the Elder tree in Wheel Lane, close to the junction of Kings Lane in Barrowden, which is on council land. There was some pruning done to the tree, but you will see from the attached photographs that the lean is now even more acute and the ground is lifting near the roots.

I am concerned that once this tree becomes heavier with elder fruit in July, the tree will fall, seriously damaging the retaining wall that is behind it and being a danger to vehicles and pedestrians using Wheel Lane.

Please can this tree be felled as a matter of urgency? And certainly before July, otherwise the council will be liable to repair my retaining wall, especially as I have alerted you twice to this problem.
